Crabtree Plantation Car Park, RG21 7
|
|
Feel like a pleasant evening walk through the rolling countryside on the edge of Basingstoke ? Meet at the Crabtree Plantation Car Park The main entrance to Crabtree from the A30 is through the Bolton Arch (former stately home entrance, sandy coloured arch, visible from the road). Car parking is available and is located about 1 mile along the A30 Old Basing Road on the right coming from the Basingstoke direction. Postcode RG21 7
From there we can cross the road and join a public footpath across Old Basing common.
We then join the road at the British Legion, walk into Old Basing village past the Old Crown Pub and the ruins of Old Basing house.
After a short distance turn into Basing Road. Basing Road eventually turns into a footpath which leads through the pounds and fountains of Eastrop Park.
From Eastrop park we can walk a slope to the Memorial Park, and finally from Memorial Park, past Black Dam lakes back to Crabtree Plantation.
The length of the walk is appoximately 3½ miles (5.6 km) and will take around 1½ hours.

Al's Boat and Pub Birthday Meetup
|
Tattershall Castle, Thames Embankment, London SW1A 2HR
|
|
Just thought I’d mention that as my birthday is coming up next month it seemed like a good excuse for a get together in London. The plan is to meetup @ the Tattershall Castle (which is a boat pub right opposite the London Eye), and to have drinks there from 4pm onwards.
A good range of reasonably priced pub food is available on the boat. An area called the Cove near the lounge on the lower deck has been reserved so we can all meet there (partners are also welcome).
In the evening, If anybody wants to go on the London Eye or take a river boat cruise from the same location I’m open for ideas..
Getting there: Tattershall Castle is near Embankment District Line tube station. Turn right out of the tube station, walk for 100yds/90m under the rail bridge, the pub is the second boat pub moored. From Waterloo main line rail station. About 10 mins walk. You need to cross over the river and take a left turn immediately after the Golden Jubilee bridge.

If you have often thought about doing the Festival – now is the time to give it a try. I have been several times during the last 10 years and the air of excitement within the city during festival time is indescribable, and with so much to do it is hard to choose.(Late night comedy shows, theatre, dance, free street entertainment, visits to the art gallery or book festival). Accommodation prices continue to rise each year, but is available at Pollock Halls student appartments (vacated during the summer and rented out) near Holyrood Park and within a 20 minute walking distance of the city centre. Cost is £43 a night for a single room with shared facilities and a buffet breakfast taken in the dining hall. Cost for 4 nights is £172. If you want to join this event you will need to book and pay for your own accommodation and consider how you will get there. (There are direct flights from Stansted, train or a group may want to drive). You may find it easier to book on line - details as follows.

Go Ape! - Alice Holt Forest
|
Go Ape! Alice Holt
Bucks Horn Oak
Nr Farnham
Surrey
|
|
It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘high-wire forest adventure’.
That means giant obstacle courses up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire, and top it all off with the country’s best zip lines (including the longest at 426 metres – check it out on You Tube).
Kitted people out with harnesses, pulleys and karabiners, after a 30 minute safety briefing and training you are let loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees. Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forests (not in monkey suits unfortunately!)
The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets your adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it’s just great fun.
Last time we did Go-Ape in Bracknell Forest, lots of us went and we had a great time. This time I thought we should try a different course in Alice Holt Forest in Surrey.
Please book by 13th July as I'd like to book as soon as possible as Go-Ape is very popular. Places are limited to 14 per session so let me know ASAP if you are interested.
Travel arrangements and car sharing to be arranged once I know numbers.

Cotswolds Camping

The Cotswolds
|
|
Join Lin in the beautiful Cotswolds for a weekend of camping and walking. We will arrive and pitch our tents on the evening of Friday 10th September at a simple and quiet campsite with showers and toilets but no shop. If the weather is good on the Saturday we will head out for a walk of approximately 8-9 miles (or shorter if preferred) after picking up some lunch. Of course if you don't want to join the walk or if the weather is bad then there are other activities in the surrounding area. Saturday evening can be a BBQ or pub meal depending on how we feel, and of course the weather! The Sunday will be another shorter walk or perhaps something more relaxing. From the campsite there is a pub within walking distance across the fields and more further a field for those who like a longer walk or short drive. All the amenities of the Cotswold village of Northleach are 1 mile from the site. The campsite is in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds area of “outstanding natural beauty”. There are miles of wonderful walks to be enjoyed in the area and lots of villages and (hilly) lanes to be discovered by walkers and cyclists or for the less energetic by car. Dates: 10th-12th September Cost per night: £6 for a basic pitch plus £2.50 per person (adult), £1 per dog. There will be extra costs for food and drink. Contact: Lin Wylie 07922056331 Book by: I will book the pitches at the start of August so let me know by the end of July if you'd like to come along. It might still be possible to book individually after this date depending on pitch availability.
This is not exclusively an IVC event so there may be non-members attending. Not suitable for children.

Monty Python's Spamalot
|
New Victoria Theatre, Woking
|
|
Audiences all around the world have been roaring with laughter since Monty Python's Spamalot, by Eric Idle and John DuPrez, won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005. Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (cancelled too expensive) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features the hilarious songs He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights Of The Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation's Favourite Comedy Song (Reader's Digest Poll 2009) - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life Don't miss your night with the Knights of The Round Table at the most infectiously funny musical of the millennium. Sets musical theatre back a thousand years!

Have a try at Ghost Hunting "revisited"
|
Fort Widley, Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth
|
|
Part of "Palmerstone's Follies", Fort Widley was built in 1861 to defend the city of Portsmouth from sea and land attack. A central spiral stair from the parade ground gives access to the four main tunnels running off it radically. It is these underground chambers that most of the Paranormal activity have been reported.
After having an amazing time at this event earlier this year, I've decided to arrange another trip to this event. The evening consists of being split into 2 teams, where you conduct different ghost hunting experiments using various pieces of equipment. Having "chewed off so many ears" talking about what I experienced last time, I want to go back a second time to experience the drama, atmosphere, and paranormal occurances which happen during the evening.
I would like to book the places by 1st September to ensure there are places available, so please get your full payment to me by this date if you want to attend. Any questions or queries give me a call.
